Garage door cable repair in Ottawa
Crooked is a warning.
Not an adjustment.
A hanging cable or an uneven door is a reason to stop—not to keep cycling the opener. The cable fault and the reason it happened both need attention.

A hanging cable means stop.
A slack or hanging cable, or a door sitting unevenly, is a reason to stop using the opener. Each attempt after that risks more damage and a bigger repair.
What we check
- Inspection of both lift cables, the drums and their supports
- The cause identified, not just the symptom
- Cable repair or replacement as the condition requires
- Even, balanced travel reset across the opening
- Safety reverse tested before we leave
Why we check both sides of the door
A new cable on one side proves nothing about the other, or about the drums and supports. Uneven travel usually has a cause worth correcting on the same visit.

Common questions
Can I put the cable back on the drum myself?
No. Repositioning it can expose you to an unsupported door and stored spring tension. Have both sides of the door and the related hardware checked.
Does a loose cable mean the cable is broken?
Not necessarily. The issue may be elsewhere in the lift system. The part still needs to be checked for damage.
Why is one side of the door lower?
Uneven support or binding can produce this symptom. It cannot be safely diagnosed by repeatedly trying the opener.
Can a frayed cable stay in use?
A visibly damaged cable needs professional attention. DASMA advises that worn or frayed cables be replaced by a trained technician.
When should I read the replacement page?
If the cables or related hardware need replacement, we’ll explain which parts are needed and why.
