03 / COUNTERBALANCE

Garage door spring repair in Ottawa

Heavy door?
Start at the springs.

A loud bang, a visible broken spring or a door that suddenly feels much heavier are common signs of a spring problem. Stop operation and have the fault assessed.

Residential door systemsOttawa & surrounding communitiesOpen daily 8 AM – 6 PM
Before: a broken torsion spring above a white sectional garage door.

A bang, then a door you cannot lift.

A broken torsion spring is sudden and obvious: a loud bang, a visible gap in the coil, and a door that has become far too heavy. Stop using it and leave it closed.

What we check

  • Inspection of the counterbalance, cables, drums and bearings
  • The failed component identified, and why it failed
  • Springs matched to the door’s weight and lift
  • Balance and travel set, then a safety-reverse test
  • Required work kept separate from optional upgrades

Why we check the rest of the spring system

A door that has travelled unevenly is rarely just a spring. The springs work with the cables, drums and bearings. We check the related hardware too, so another worn part is not missed.

What we check: broken-spring symptoms, counterbalance assessment, connected hardware condition, repair versus replacement scope.

OUR WORK

Spring replacement, before and after

The same door before and after the broken spring was replaced.

Before: a broken torsion spring above a white sectional garage door.
After: a continuous replacement torsion spring above the same door.

The photos show the installation only. Spring rating and pricing depend on the spring required for the door.

Common questions

Can a snapped spring be repaired without replacement?

A broken spring requires replacement with an appropriate component. It should not be welded or spliced.

Can I open the door with one spring broken?

Do not use the opener or attempt to handle the unsupported weight. The remaining spring does not establish that the door is safe.

Should both springs be replaced?

If your door uses two springs, we check the condition of both before recommending the repair. DASMA recommends replacing both when one of an older pair fails.

Is the spring colour enough to order a replacement?

Do not rely on colour or an online visual match alone. The replacement must suit the door and its counterbalance arrangement.

Is lubrication a fix for a broken spring?

No. Lubrication cannot restore a fractured spring or correct an incorrectly matched counterbalance.
