Weather seal replacement in Ottawa

Close the gaps.
Keep the movement.

The bottom edge and perimeter need compatible seals that contact correctly without making the door bind. Start by identifying where the gap actually is.

Residential door systemsOttawa & surrounding communitiesOpen daily 8 AM – 6 PM
After: New bottom-retainer extrusion and black weather seal at a garage-door corner.

Find the gap before replacing the seal.

The bottom edge and the perimeter need compatible seals that make contact without binding the door. Where the gap actually is decides which part is at fault.

What we check

  • The opening checked for where the gap really is
  • Bottom retainer and perimeter condition assessed
  • Seals matched to the existing profiles
  • Damaged retainer or frame work included in the scope
  • Door travel rechecked so nothing binds

Why the right seal matters

Bottom seals sit in specific retainers, and perimeter seals need a sound mounting surface. Forcing a universal piece into the wrong profile is what makes a door drag.

What we check: bottom and perimeter gap assessment, seal and retainer compatibility, door travel and contact, frame and drainage limitations.

HOW IT WORKS

What to expect

01

Locate and photograph the gap safely.

02

Identify the existing seal and retainer.

03

We’ll let you know if alignment or damaged material needs attention before the new seal goes on.

04

Replace and check contact through normal travel.

We’ll confirm the work, timing and price before anything starts.

OUR WORK

Sealing a gap at the jamb

The same opening before and after the seal was replaced.

Before: a visible gap at the garage door jamb.
After: the same jamb closed up and sealed.

The side-seal sequence still shows lower-frame wear.

Common questions

Will a thicker seal fix every floor gap?

No. Floor shape, door alignment and the retainer can limit what a replacement seal can achieve.

Can a seal stop all water coming into the garage?

Not necessarily. Drainage and surrounding construction may need separate attention.

Do I need both bottom and side seals?

We replace only the parts that are actually worn or damaged. Their condition and contact can differ.

Why does the door reverse after new seals?

The door may also need an alignment or travel adjustment. Do not bypass safety features or force the door through excess resistance.

Should seals be replaced with a new door?

Clarify which seals and retainers are included in the installation quote and how they meet the existing floor and frame.
